Indian History is replete with stories of heroism and valor. Stories of kingdoms won, battles lost, destructed cities and dynasties that flourished – have been told and retold. I would like to go back in time to revisit stories from the 16th century and perhaps even times ancient than that. I have grown up listening to many of these tales and I would like to confess that in times of facing unfavorable situations, the vision and actions of inspirational figures from these historic tales have proven to be a guiding light.
What is BlogchatterA2Z?
Every year in the month of April, Blogchatter (a blogging community) hosts for bloggers a Blogging Challenge that has participants writing 26 blog posts – one for each letter of the alphabet – it is challenging and extremely exciting! I had participated last year and my theme was Hawkers of Kolkata. This year, I would like to use this opportunity to share historic tales of legendary men and women.
What made me choose this topic?
Stories have this phenomenal characteristic to create a lasting impression on our minds and when the stories are inspirational, they often guide us in the times of need. I have faced a similar situation recently and while I found myself grappling with the discomfort of an unfavorable situation – story of a legendary character popped in my mind and I found a way to make peace with whatever was happening around me. The stories don’t necessarily help us to find a way out of the situation, but it can pave the way to accept the situation and look at the possibilities that can help to overcome the situation. I would like to narrate the stories from not just a spiritual point of view but as a way to see a situation from a different perspective, a tale that helps to solve the puzzles in our mind and untangle the chaotic knots.
What can you expect from the series of posts?
This series will see a retelling of popular folktales. There will be short stories about a brave prince who gave up on all his wealth to live a peaceful life as an ascetic to stories about women who have unquestionable belief in who they choose to worship. Yes, the stories will have annotations based on Jain concepts and there will also be key takeaways that can be applied to our modern-day lifestyles. There could be concepts that do not meet your beliefs which I acknowledge and respect and I seek the same understanding from your end. The stories are woven with a faith that they can spread some positivity and inspire us to be a better version of us, to live a more fulfilling life. Join in to read interesting, true stories of extraordinary accomplishments. I shall try to share an audio version of the story along with the written blog post.
This will be a great opportunity to get content straight from highly acclaimed books and scriptures, all translated in an easy to understand language – many of these tales will be shared in English for the very first time.
