Shatrunjay Navanu Yatra 2018-19

Tamara Pagle Pagle Pa Pa Pagli Mandi Che

I arrived at Palitana on the 22nd of November and left for Calcutta on the 12th of January. These 50 days of Navanu have been by far the most meaningful and peaceful days for me. I can’t find words to define the the experience but while on my way to Ahmedabad on 12th January, during the bus journey, I happened to pen this poem which is always going to be a fine memory of this lifetime experience. I’ve tried to express the feelings that I experienced from the early morning of day 1 to the last afternoon that I visited Dada’s darbar…the memory is still fresh and I look forward to re-experience the days next year…
The poem is in Gujarati, I have translated in English as well –

Savar no 5 vage vagto dhol,
jagadto sau ne darroj…
chalo karva jatra, modu thai che…
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[The beats of the dhol would wake us all in the morning at 5 am.
Let’s go for the jatra, it’s getting late, the roommates would say
Those days of Navanu are going to be missed!]

Muffler bandhyu, batuo Bharyo…
Chalya malva Dada ne aaj,
Aaje to 3 karis, Ka toh 2 karis, pakshal Kari Dada ne malis…
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[Tied the muffler, stocked the batua
and we started off to meet Adeshwar Dada
Today i’ll do 3 jatras or maybe 2, will perform pakshal and meet Dada
Those days of Navanu are going to be missed!]

‘Chalo re chalo Nau Tunk chalo’ ni dhun sambhdhani,
Puja na pass ni daud pan lagi…
Jatra karta, pragatya uttam bhaav ghana,
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[As we approached the darbar, we heard the songs encouraging us to visit Nau Tunk,
Yatris also walked faster to get the pass for Dada’s Puja,
While doing jatras, a lot of positive thoughts also came to our minds,
Those days of Navanu are going to be missed!]

Sohamna Dada na darshan Kari, utarya Gheti Ni Pag…
Rasste aavti Parabo ne dheemi chalti pawan,
Kevo anero che aa utsav aapdo…
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[After worshipping the divine Lord, we went to Gheti ni Pag for the 2nd yatra,
The water stops on the way and the soothing winds,
How beautiful is this unique festival of ours,
Those days of Navanu will be missed!]

Chaityavandan Kari, bhamti fari, raja lai,
Aavyu have ekasnu yaad…
Dai vada ke pachi saidi no ras…
Su banyu hashe aaj,
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[Praying and performing rituals, took leave and
now we remembered Ekasnu!
Dahi vada or Sugarcane juice
What’s going to be today’s menu?
Those days of Navanu will be missed!]

7 vagya ne sambhdaiyo Asha Aunty no avaaz…
E halo beno Pratikraman karva…
Adhdha jagta, adhdha unghta sau karta Pratikraman,
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[It’s 7pm now and we can hear Asha Aunty,
Calling us for Pratikraman
Half awake, half asleep,
We all would participate in Pratikraman,
Those days of Navanu will be missed!]

Stavano gaata, vaarta sambhadta…
Chhath karta ne karavta…
Kya veeti gaya Divso, khabar no padi,
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[Singing songs of devotion, listening to Historic stories,
Doing and helping others to do Chhath,
We didn’t even realize where the days went by…
Those days of Navanu will be missed!]

Sangam hato bhakti ane Mann ni shanti no,
Malya aapde runanubandh na aa sagar ma…
Ek navu parivaar lage jane banyu che aaj,
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[It was a beautiful blend of devotion and peace,
We all happened to meet by a beautiful fate of chance…maybe we’ve met in some previous births…
It feels like I’m a member of a new, loving family,
Those days of Navanu will be missed!]

Kai bhuli gai chu tya, ghanu amulya muki aavi chu tya…
Kevi rite lai aavu e anubhav Calcutta mari saath?
Dada thi vaat Kari, rakhu e sundar smriti hu mari saath…chalu thodu emna marge aaj…
E Navanu na Divso Aavse Bau Yaad!

[I’ve left behind something valuable, feels like I’ve forgotten something precious there,
How do I bring it all back with me to Calcutta?
Let me keep the precious memory of having had the luck to speak and worship Adeshwar Dada, let me try and make his preaching a part of my life…
Those days of Navanu will be missed!]

I love to daydream, design, sing and read about perfect vacations! Writing is my way to escape into my make-belief world and re-think about life's various incidents. You can often find me lost in my own thoughts, absent-mindedly also staring at someone in the process! :p When not thinking too hard, I play board games with my mom and chat and hang out with my friends. Let's know each other better by the way of words. :)
