My city in the months of May and June has temperatures soaring to 40 degrees Celsius and stepping out of home would mean getting drained of all your energy. I remember the balmy summer afternoons when I was a kid – my Mom would prepare delicious fruit drinks and store them in the refrigerator everyday. It was mandatory for my sister and me to drink a glass of the fruit based refreshments after coming home from school. Nothing, I repeat nothing can quench my thirst as satisfyingly as a glass of tangy ‘Nimbu Pani‘ that comes from my Mom’s kitchen! You may think ‘Nimbu Pani’ is a simple and easy to make drink but no one can make it like it’s made by my mummy dearest. There is this special flavour or maybe I’m just biased because it reminds me of my childhood.

Last year I tried my hands at making a home-made mango ice cream, this time I thought of trying to make this cool summer drink.

Of all the ingredients to prepare today’s drink, Mint is one of my favourites! The fresh green leaves, are even refreshing to look at. Apart from having a beautiful flavour, Mint leaves can also boast about having multiple medicinal properties. Psst, for the ladies to note, the natural antioxidants present in Mint can do wonders to make your skin glow! When the summer heat makes your skin dull, you know what to do! 😉

The next super ingredient is the water-bearer – Cucumber! Do you know how the saying ‘as cool as a cucumber’ came into being a common English phrase? As per Scientific research, the inside of a cucumber’ can be as much as 20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature! Isn’t that amazing! Nature and it’s astonishingly beautiful ways can truly be surprising!

Time to blend the unique flavours and properties of these gorgeous greens to prepare the summer cooler of the season.

Preparation Time – 20 mins

Serves – 2

You will need –

1. Fresh Mint Leaves – 1 bunch

2. Cucumber – 2 small, cut into small pieces

3. Raw mango – 1, small

4. Lemon – 2

5. Black salt – (as per preference)

6. Jeera powder – (as per preference)

7. Ginger (optional)

Here’s the Green Team to help you beat the summer heat!

Churning & Blending

This is a rather simple recipe and requires no time at all. It is only slicing of the cucumber and raw mango which would require some time. Once all the ingredients are ready, blend them all together in a blender. Make sure that the ingredients are utilized soon after they have been sliced. Keep them sliced for too long makes them lose the water content and it’s freshness quotient! Since the cucumber has ample water content, you will not need to add it separately.

Recipe

Not as pretty as the previous picture 😦 but super healthy! 🙂

Serving time

It is recommended to not strain/sieve the mixture in order to retain the healthy fibers. Refrigerate the drink for sometime before serving.

Here is your Mint Cucumber Summer Cooler! Serve it chilled! 🙂

Ready in minutes and full of healthy ingredients, you can never go wrong with this! All the ingredients have been carefully chosen to ensure that the flavour of one doesn’t just blend with the other but also complements the unique flavours of each ingredient.

Mint makes it refreshing, raw mangoes and lemon make it tangy, while cucumber ups the coolness quotient! (Pun intended) 😉 The tiny amount of both the salts play their role to balance the flavours. The cooler overall helps to treat indigestion, keep bad breath at bay and replenish energy after a tiring day at work.

Just make sure that you don’t take this after sunset if cucumbers don’t go well with you. You might want to otherwise replace your fizzy drinks with this for few summer afternoons! 😉 Let me know if that happens, I’d be happy to know. 🙂

Ciao, until next time! 🙂

I love to daydream, design, sing and read about perfect vacations! Writing is my way to escape into my make-belief world and re-think about life's various incidents. You can often find me lost in my own thoughts, absent-mindedly also staring at someone in the process! :p When not thinking too hard, I play board games with my mom and chat and hang out with my friends. Let's know each other better by the way of words. :)

  3. This looks very appetizing. Cucumbers are so refreshing, and the scent of mint combined with that must be really heavenly.
